Within one hour, the Top 11 finalists would become the 10 participating in the American Idols LIVE! 2010 tour. Who would it be? The show began with a very dramatic movie trailer type of opening. I expected to hear the late Don LaFontaine in a voiceover: "1 Idol. With dreams of becoming a superstar. Will fall."
Why is there a woman with a bloody nose dripping on to her chest in the audience?! The camera has cut to her twice. And she appears to be having a blast. Medic!
The Top 11 took the stage for an energetic performance of Wham!'s "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go." Wham! was putting symbols in their name before Ke$ha and 3OH!3 were born. Crystal Bowersox is wearing a dress short enough to reveal her knees. If the group performance wasn't energetic enough for you, we then got to see this week's Ford music video of Idols driving around and diving into a ball pit.
The nervous contestants were very quiet, but Ryan made them speak. Siobhan's boss is in the audience and won't shave until Siobhan wins. So if she doesn't win, will he be growing facial hair for the rest of his life? Will the beard fall into the blow torch and catch on fire? The bloody woman in the audience is Siobhan's friend and she's sitting with some other bloody faced girls. Apparently this was just face paint and they are Siobhanbies (Like Siobhan + Zombie). That's a new kind of follower. I'd love to see the Siobhanbies come out at each of the tour stops, if Siobhan is one of the lucky 10. We then learned that Katie Stevens' dad leaves the audience after the group performances and heads across the street to have a drink because he can't watch his baby lose. Michael Lynche finds some time at night to carry his baby around, and she looks like a small spot on his large torso.
On to the results, Ryan revealed that Siobhan is packing her bags [long, dramatic pause] because she's going on tour with the Top 10. There were screaming bloody people in the audience, and this became too much for me to handle on a Wednesday night. Lee DeWyze and Casey James were asked to stand up together. Ryan recapped their performances and then asked Paige Miles and Tim Urban to stand as he recapped their performances. What does this mean, Ryan?! You're playing with my nerves! He tells Paige that she's in the bottom three, and then he tells Tim he's joining her in the bottom. And then we cut to commercial. But what about Casey and Lee? Did they stand throughout the commercial break? And what's with the soap opera/Barbara Walters special lighting on the judges this evening and last night?
My questions went unanswered but Ryan did reveal some big news -- next week the Top 10 will take on R&B soul music under the guidance of ...Usher! The music will be available on iTunes, so I will be playing my new favorite game of listening to each song and figuring out which contestant should perform it.
Mentor Miley Cyrus performed "When I Look At You" and even started off at the piano. This girl has really impressed me these past two days. She got up from the piano and was wearing what could pass for a wedding dress. Then, Miley began head banging and I was nervous about her extensions, but they stayed in place.
It was time for more results, and Ryan said that Lee and Casey are indeed on tour with Siobhan. Aaron Kelly will be finishing school on the road this summer and Didi Benami will have to face the judges again next week. Michael Lynche and Crystal Bowersox will be away from their babies as they tour the country this summer. Would Andrew Garcia be away from his kid too? Or would Katie be joining Aaron in class on the road? Andrew will be kissing his son goodbye as he embarks on the Idols Summer Tour. Almost immediately, Ryan turned Katie back around and led her to the safety of the bleachers. Either Tim or Paige would be leaving the competition at this pivotal point.
Young love was in the air as Joe Jonas (the quiet guest judge during Dallas auditions this season) and Demi Lovato performed "Make A Wave." The kids in the audience came on the right night! Why is Joe wearing large black ear feeds? He couldn't find anything less noticeable?
Ryan told America, "Find out what you've done, right after this." Way to load the guilt on to us! The results revealed that Tim will be sliding across the stage all summer, and that Paige will go back to preschool. With blue streaks in her hair but no teary streaks on her face, Paige accepted the results, and Simon and the other judges' decision to not have Paige sing for the save. Paige said some kind words and you could hear that she's still battling laryngitis. As we watch her goodbye package, we see that her looks evolved throughout this journey. Paige will be joining her BFF Lacey not on tour, but she still rocked Free's "All Right Now" as the credits rolled.
Congratulations to Aaron, Andrew, Casey, Crystal, Didi, Katie, Lee, Michael, Siobhan, and Tim. We'll see you on tour!
