The season is well on its way at the start of the Top 10 results show. Ryan started the broadcast by announcing that two of the Top 20 contestants who received the most amount of votes, but didn't make into the Top 10 would be singing off for a spot in the IDOL Live Tour! 2013! The reveal of who it was would happen later in the episode.
Ryan went straight to the results next and grabbed Devin, Janelle and Candice. He revealed that Devin won the top vote in Puerto Rico, Janelle went No. 1 in Tennessee and Candice took South Carolina. While these Idols did really well only one of them was in the Top 3 overall for the night! It was Candice Glover who knocked everyone out of their seats with her rendition of "I Who Have Nothing" by Ben E. King at the Top 10 performance show.
After the break the Top 10 got down and groovy singing "Shine Your Way" from the movie The Croods. It was the first live group performance of the season and the Top 10 rocked that stage like real pros.
Ryan then grabbed Kree Harrison and gave her a special surprise! The mayor of her hometown, Woodville, TX, came on stage to present Kree with the key to the city! She was clearly touched, but the surprise didn't stop there! Ryan announced that Kree also made the Top 3 overall this week.
Ryan stopped by to chat with Glee's own Jane Lynch who had a prime spot in the audience for the next guest performer! Bon Jovi then lit up the stage performing their new single "Because We Can" off their upcoming album, What About Now.
Next Ryan revealed that the fan favorite Charlie Askew would sing for a spot on the IDOL Live! Tour. Charlie went back to his roots crooning out an original song "Sky Blue Diamond" from a white piano on stage. After his performance he admitted that he penned the song after the breakup of a 2 and a half year relationship.
Charlie's IDOL Live! Tour rival Aubrey Cleland then took her shot in front of America. She gave a chilling performance of "Out Here On My Own" from Fame. Who will make it on the tour? It's your choice! We find out the results on next Wednesday's episode.
It was a performance heavy results show, with Season 11 IDOL champ, Phillip Phillips taking the stage next to perform his latest single, "Gone, Gone, Gone." The IDOL champ looked at home on the stage. Afterwards Randy presented him with a plaque immortalizing Phillip's debut single, "Home," which with quadruple platinum! Congrats, Phillip!
Back to the results! Ryan Seacrest pulled up Angie and Lazaro. While Ryan revealed that Lazaro beat Angie in Florida, he also announced that Angie had made it to the Top 3 for the week!
In rapid succession Ryan listed off the placement of the other contestants. Lazaro Arbos was 4th. Amber Holcomb came in 5th, while Janelle Arthur took 6th. Louisiana native Burnell Taylor claimed 7th and Paul Jolley sneaked by in 8th place. It came down to Devin Velez and Curtis Finch, Jr.
Ryan went to Keith for his reaction. The country legend replied that Curtis and Devin were "both great singers" and that he was "a little shocked." Nicki had a stronger reaction and declared, "I definitely think Curtis should not be in the bottom two," and declared that she'd leave if Curtis left.
The tension built up greatly before Ryan announced that Devin Velez had taken 9th place. Curtis Finch, Jr. would have to sing for the judges' save. Nicki briefly left her seat, but quickly thought better of it and returned to hear Curtis perform. Curtis decided to sing "I Believe" by R. Kelly, a song that had gotten him great praise from the judges earlier in the season. After the performance Randy announced, "We are not unanimous, unfortunately." Curtis would be headed home. Nicki was upset stating, "I really think we needed an extra moment to discuss it."
Farewell, Curtis! Tune in next week for the Top 9 performance show.
