This is what the entire season has been building to: The crowning of the next American Idol. Before that could happen though we were treated to outstanding performances from music legends and our finalists from the season!

The opening performances from our two finalists showcased everything we've come to expect from the talented pair as they delivered a medley of "We Will Rock You" by Queen and "Just A Girl" by No Doubt.

The votes have been cast, but at the top of the show the performers had two more hours to wait until they'd know who took the title of American Idol.

Caleb and Jena ended their opening number with "It's Only Love" by Bryan Adams and Tina Turner.

After the energetic performance Ryan officially opened the show promising an "insane super-star roster" for the night's show!

The three people who were responsible for discovering this year's incredible talent took the stage for the last time this season!

As Ryan introduced the two finalists, our stoic judge Harry Connick Jr. got to his feet for the first time this season! Now that the competition is officially over, Harry could let loose and enjoy all the celebratory performances.

Sam Woolf started a performance of Phillip Phillips' "Home" only to joined by the star himself in the middle of the song.

After Phillip joined Sam for the end of "Home," the two went into Phillips' latest hit, "Raging Fire."

In the two years since Phillip Phillips was crowned the Season 11 winner, his career has skyrocketed. Everyone knows Phillip Phillips' songs including our judges who were singing along to the hits!

Country star Jennifer Nettles took to the stage to perform "That Girl."

Alabama girl Jessica Meuse joined Jennifer Nettles on stage to give a country twist to Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball."

Jessica's vocals blended perfectly with Jennifer Nettles' creating a unique rendition of the famous pop song.

Jennifer Lopez performed her new song "First Love" at the IDOL finale.

Jennifer Lopez's "First Love" performance blew the roof off the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.

Caleb began a performance of KISS' "Love Gun" before being joined on stage by the iconic band.

Caleb fit right in with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame act.

There is one question that remains about Caleb's epic performance with KISS? Why didn't Caleb join in on the fun by wearing KISS' iconic makeup?

Caleb's brother even got into the fun by making himself up as a member of the band!

Aloe Blacc joined the IDOL finale to perform with the Top 13 guys!

Aloe Blacc and the Top 13 guys performed Aloe's hit, "The Man."

Demi Lovato took the stage performing "I Don't Really Care."

The Top 13 girls joined Demi on stage for a performance of "Neon Lights"

Each of the top IDOL girls had a moment to shine during their performance of "Neon Lights" with Demi Lovato.

Demi Lovato and the finalist girls brought down the house with their performance of "Neon Lights."

Jena Irene performed one of the songs that got her to the finale, Paramore's "Decode."

Partially through Jena's performance, Hayley Williams and Paramore joined our top girl on stage!

Paramore and Jena went on to sing a rendition of "Ain't It Fun" for the IDOL audience.

At the end of Paramore's "Ain't It Fun" big yellow balloons filled up the Nokia Theatre!

Following Paramore John Legend got behind the piano to perform "You + I."

IDOL finalist Malaya Watson then joined John Legend for a performance of his ever popular, "All Of Me."

John remained seated a the piano while Malaya's powerful voice rang out from in front.

Alex Preston then joined Jason Mraz to perform Mraz's new song, "Love Someone."

If ever there was a perfect pairing between IDOL contestant and musical guest it was Alex Preston and Jason Mraz who sounded like they've been singing together for years.

What a treat for Alex Preston to get to perform with his idol, Jason Mraz.

Towards the end of the show the audience got a special treat when Ryan Seacrest took the stage for his first performance!

Ryan performed "Right Here Waiting" by Richard Marx for his big IDOL finale performance. Ryan's first concert ever was Richard Marx bringing things full circle when star joined him for the performance.

While we can't say Ryan's one of the greatest singers ever heard on the IDOL stage, we can say that his performance was fun! "I apologize" said Ryan of his performance.

Country star Darius Rucker then performed his song "True Believers."

C.J. Harris and Dexter Roberts joined Darius Rucker to perform "Alright" live!

C.J. and Dexter had performed the song earlier in the season, but took things to the next level performing it with the artist himself!

Performing with Darius was a high mark for both C.J. and Dexter, but even more so for C.J. who names Darius as one of his idols.

Lady Antebellum graced the stage performing, "Bartender."

Lady Antebellum really got the crowd going during their performance of "Bartender."

The crowd went wild for Lady Antebellum's "Bartender."

For the first time in IDOL history our judges got together to perform a spectacular medley!

Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick, Jr. performed a mash-up of Cyndi Lauper's "True Colors" and Fleetwood Mac's "Go Your Own Way."

The race was too close to call between Jena Irene and Caleb Johnson! Who would take the IDOL crown?

Dim the Lights, here were go! The last of results of the season named Caleb Johnson as your American Idol.

Caleb Johnson performed his coronation song, "As Long As You Love Me."

Congratulations, Caleb Johnson! YOU are the next American Idol!
