Season 4’s Anthony Fedorov has had a busy season, but he hopped on the phone with AmericanIdol.com between Hairspray performances to chat about the musical, his upcoming New York show, his album, and more!

What are Anthony’s Thanksgiving plans? He revealed, “I’m having my folks come down to Hartford on Thursday. I’m doing Hairspray here right now. We are actually getting some time off over these next few days, and then we finish up with the show on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. It will be nice to relax with my folks for a little bit. My mom is going to bring down some food.”

If you’re in the Hartford, CT area this weekend, you can see Anthony as Link in Hairspray. “We put in a lot of hard work into rehearsals to get the show up and running. It’s been good so far. We’ve done four shows so far, and we have five shows left this weekend.” The dates and times are:
Friday, November 25, 2011 at 1 pm & 7 pm
Saturday, November 26, 2011 at 2 pm & 7 pm
Sunday, November 27, 2011 at 2 pm

Five shows in three days sounds exhausting, but Anthony thrives off of the schedule. He said, “You just kind of get used to it. We’ve been rehearsing for a while. Luckily, I’ve been able to get all the choreography and I’m just trying to have as much fun with it as I possibly can. Idol has given me a crash course on the music industry and the industry of the arts. I started to develop my work ethic when I was on the show, and when I started doing musical theatre the work ethic translated and I was able to hone in on my craft even more. Because of that, I know what I’m doing when it comes to taking care of my voice and my body. Idol gives us a lot of knowledge and nice foundation to work with.” Anthony blogged that the choreography involved with performing as Link in Hairspray is intense. He explained, “That’s been one of the most challenging things I’ve done to date because I’m not a dancer, so it’s been quite difficult to get the steps down in a week. I don’t know how I was able to do it, but I did it! I’m really happy about it.”

Fans also have the chance to see Anthony in a big upcoming show in New York. “On December 9th, I have a show at The Bitter End in New York City. I’m really, really excited about that because this is actually going to be my second show in New York in the last few months, and The Bitter End is a legendary spot in New York. Anyone who is anyone has come through that place whether it’s comedians like Billy Crystal or Bill Cosby, or the Elton Johns and Stevie Wonders of the world—everyone has gone through that place! It’s going to be quite an honor for me to perform there. Ever since I started doing music I was like ‘There are two places I have to perform at when it comes to New York. One is The Bitter End and the second is Madison Square Garden.’ Of course I’m still working my way up to that venue, but it’s nice to cross this off my bucket list!” He’s also holding a contest for fans who want to come see him. Anthony explained, “Basically, I’m giving fans an opportunity to choose one of my songs and send me a video of them performing the song. It doesn’t have to be perfect, but I just want to see who is going to be enthusiastic about it. The best effort and performance of one of my songs will win them a pair of tickets to the show, so it’s really cool.” Submit your video!

Anthony continues to be as active as ever with the Sarcoma Foundation of America. “Two weeks ago, I was in Los Angeles and I performed, along with Rufus Wainwright and Martha Wainwright, at the Dr. Robert Urich foundation event at The Music Box. This was our first west coast gala for the Sarcoma Foundation that I work with. It’s a huge step for us because we’re raising awareness on both coasts. I opened the show and sang The National Anthem. Later on I sang two songs from my record and then later Rufus and Martha performed. The fact that they’re involved with the organization is a huge thing because unfortunately their mother passed away from Sarcoma. It was great to see them there, but you almost wish they wouldn’t be in the same way that I wish I wasn’t, because it would mean my brother would still be alive. It’s a great thing that brings us together—that hope for finding a cure and bringing about better treatment options for Sarcoma cancers—but it’s always a constant reminder that another life was lost.” Anthony encourages people in the New York area on December 15th to check out the Wainwright’s “A Not So Silent Night” Christmas show which benefits the Sarcoma Foundation of America and the Kate McGarrigle Sarcoma Research Fund.
