The total number of Idol contestants who have charted in Billboard jumps to 20, with two finalists making debuts last week. Chris Daughtry and Taylor Hicks made their first appearances on The Billboard Hot 100 (Daughtry and Hicks) and Adult Contemporary (Hicks) charts. The release of the American Idol Season 5 Encores album provides another measuring stick to judge the popularity of recent contestants. Though surprisingly bounced from the show May 10, Chris Daughtry is the victor among digital votes with a #17 entry for "Wanted Dead or Alive" on Hot Digital Songs (27,500 downloads) and Hot Shot Debut honors on The Billboard Hot 100 at #43. Idol winner, Taylor Hicks, places the only other song, a #42 debut on Hot Digital Songs (16,000) and #69 arrival on Hot 100, for "Taking It to the Streets."
