“We Are The World 25 For Haiti” Premieres Tonight
During tonight’s Opening Ceremonies of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, the video for “We Are The World 25 For Haiti” will premiere for all of the world to see. The footage features many of today’s most influential artists including American Idol finalists Jordin Sparks, Jennifer Hudson, Katharine McPhee, and judge Randy Jackson. Idol’s Music Director, Rickey Minor, served as a co-producer of the studio recording.
The event was put together by legendary producer Quincy Jones and singer/songwriter Lionel Richie as part of their Download to Donate campaign. “We Are the World” is a song and charity single originally recorded by the supergroup USA for Africa in 1985. It was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie, and co-produced by Quincy Jones and Michael Omartian for the album We Are the World. The album received many honors including three Grammy Awards, one American Music Award, and a People’s Choice Award.
“We Are The World 25 For Haiti” features over 80 artists and performers singing “We Are The World” 25 years after the original was recorded. All funds raised benefit the Haitian earthquake relief efforts and the rebuilding of Haiti.
