Kris & Allison Chat About Idol and New Year’s Eve
Season 8's American Idol, Kris Allen, and top girl, Allison Iraheta, will be performing in Las Vegas for FOX's New Year's Eve show. On a press call, Kris and Allison discussed their upcoming New Year's Eve performance, plans for 2010, and more.
Both Kris and Allison are excited for the opportunity to perform in Vegas with FOX. "Who wouldn't want to be in Vegas performing?" Allison asked. "It's pretty much an experience of a lifetime for me and for both of us. It's going to be a lot of fun," said the redheaded rocker. Kris is also excited to participate, and partly because he's never been to Las Vegas before. In the past, Kris and Allison would celebrate the new year by eating with their loved ones.
Although they didn't mention what they'd be singing, both artists alluded to singing two songs a piece. Allison said of all of Kris' songs off his self-titled album, she likes "Live Like We're Dying" and "Red Guitar" the best. Kris likes the song that Allison co-wrote, "You Don't Know Me," from her debut album, Just Like You. They also toyed with the idea of performing an acoustic duet to Allison's track, "Don't Waste The Pretty."
Do Kris and Allison have any resolutions for 2010? Kris said he plans to "work harder on music stuff – just writing and performing and all that." Allison joked that her "New Year's resolution was to not have a New Year's resolution."
With a new album under each of their belts, Kris and Allison are enjoying the experience of performing their own music. Kris said, "That's the reason that I tried out for American Idol…It was to hopefully get the chance to make music of my own and that's what we're both getting to do now."
It was not even a year ago that America was introduced to Kris and Allison. What have they learned during this whirlwind of a year? Allison said that being on American Idol has helped them grow as people and as artists, and it allowed her to choose her path as an artist. Kris learned what areas of music he's best at while performing on the show.
With Season 9 less than a month away, the Idol pros had some advice for the new contestants. Kris said, "Just rock…just do your best." Allison added that it's important for the Idol hopefuls to "stay true to themselves."
