Kris Allen on the Idols Tour
On the very last day of the 50 city American Idols LIVE! 2009 tour, we caught up with the American Idol, Kris Allen. He reflected on the tour, opened up about his debut album, and talked about the fans.
Many of the Idols have been battling bad colds during the last stretch of the tour, and Kris was one of the hardest hit. Fortunately, he's doing better now and he feels good about ending the tour stronger and healthier than he was earlier this week.
With only one performance left, Kris said he's "going to miss singing for a lot of people every night. A lot of us will miss playing to big arenas. The Top 10 have been together for almost a year now, so it's going to be really sad when we say goodbye. We've already started to make plans to meet up soon."
As the winner of Season 8, Kris has been juggling the tour with recording his debut album. And on top of it all he's still a newlywed. "Katy's been busy with her job, but she has been able to come to a couple of shows."
Kris was willing to reveal some information about his upcoming album to us. The album will drop on November 17, 2009. "I've been able to write a little bit. We're still working on it, and there's still a lot of work left to do, but I'm excited about it. The single should be coming out very soon." At this moment, Kris isn't sure if he'll be playing many instruments on the tracks; it all depends on what they have time for. Kris has been very busy with the 50 city Idol tour so he hasn't had time to record any instrumentals thus far. During Season 8's Rat Pack week, guest mentor Jamie Foxx said he is a big fan of Kris and would love to work with him in the future. MyIdol member Ki1lerqueen wanted to know if Kris will be collaborating with Jamie Foxx on this album. Kris said, "probably not, as we haven't contacted each other, but perhaps we'll be able to work with each other in the future."
During Kris' set on the American Idols LIVE! tour, he plays the acoustic guitar, the piano, the electric guitar, and during his performance of "Bright Lights" he plays both the piano and the electric guitar. When asked if his future concerts will be similar to his set on the Idols tour, Kris said, "I would say so. It would be a little bit of everything - like an extended version of my set."
MyIdol member americanidol22xo said that Kris sang a song he wrote for Katy when he proposed to her, and she wanted to know if Kris plans on ever releasing that song. Kris exclaimed, "No! Not at all. It wasn't even that good of a song." At least it was good enough for Katy to say "yes!" Kris told us that he mostly sings "about what other people go through. Love songs are prevalent in my collection because that's what is going on with lots of people. I also like to sing about what's going on in the world."
While traveling around the country on tour this summer, Kris said that "every fan encounter is memorable." He went on to say that "some fans can be pretty crazy, but they're all awesome and amazing. They wait outside to see us so we try and talk to them as much as we can. The fans are really the best. I hope it stays this way, where we all have lifelong fans from being on the show."
When Kris auditioned for Season 8 of American Idol, his brother tried out too. "I don't think he plans to audition again, but he's successful in what he does," Kris mentioned.
To all of Kris' fans he says "thanks for coming to multiple shows and for dancing and clapping. It's so cool to have fans like that out there."
That concludes all Top 10 tour interviews. Thanks for reading along this summer! You can continue to post your pictures from the tour here and add your recaps here.
