Michael Sarver on the Idols Tour
Michael Sarver has spent the last month on tour with his fellow Top 10 finalists. With a month and a half to go on the 50 city tour, Michael opened up to AmericanIdol.com about being away from his family and if he has plans to return to the oil rig.
As Season 8's tenth place finisher, Michael kicks off the show each night. Michael said that kicking off the show is a pretty amazing rush, and it's "a responsibility I take very seriously." He said he loves being able to get the crowd's energy level up, and enjoys the leadership role of performing first.
During Michael's set, he dedicates Ne-Yo's "Closer" to his wife. Michael's wife and two kids were able to make it out to the Idols Tour in Glendale, Arizona and Dallas, Texas. He probably won't see his kids again until after the tour, but his wife will probably come out to the show again. Michael mentioned, "It's almost harder to see them again, because they don't fully understand the idea of me being there and then gone. It's the most difficult part for me."
To pass the time on the road, Michael uses the time to sleep or watch movies. He said the guys on the bus are always making fun of each other, but they know when to turn it on and when to turn it off. Michael describes the guys as very level-headed and the atmosphere on the bus as both "fun and serious." In a recent video interview with AmericanIdol.com, Michael mentioned that he has written over 900 songs (905 to be exact!). With much time spent on the road, Michael has written more songs and said, "Living the dream inspires me. I see a lot of people from different places while on tour, and it's made a huge impact on me as an artist and writer to come face to face with the people who got me to this point."
When Michael started the American Idol journey, we saw a lot of footage of his life as an employee on an oil rig. When asked if he has plans to return to the oil rig or continue to pursue music after the tour, Michael said that he plans to pursue music, and there's some interest and talks about the possibility of working on an album. He said, "It would be a disappointment to go back to my old job. It would mean that I failed at my music career. I plan on pursuing music for the rest of my life."
While signing autographs at one of the tour stops, some enthusiastic fans pulled Michael into the railing to get a picture with him. Michael missed two steps and fractured the bone in his heel. Despite the pain, when Michael's on stage, nothing can keep him from dancing.
Finally, Michael would like to say to his fans: "Thank you very much. You've genuinely blown my mind with your support. Thanks for appreciating my character as much as my voice. You made me who I am today and it's been great meeting you all on tour."
