Allison Iraheta on the Idols Tour
Allison Iraheta and her fellow Top 9 Idols kicked off the American Idol 2009 Tour on July 5 in Portland. When we caught up with Allison on July 8, the Idols were hot off the Portland and Tacoma shows and heading to Vancouver. With two shows down and 48 to go, Allison opened up about life on the road and performing for huge crowds.
Describing her first two shows as "amazing, fun, and great," Allison said she couldn't believe how awesome the crowds were. Tacoma was especially energetic and loud, according to Allison.
On Allison's AmericanIdol.com contestant profile page, she lists Michael Jackson as her favorite male artist. She didn't watch the memorial service on the bus because she thought it was best for her not to, since she knew it would make her very emotional. Michael Jackson inspired Allison musically, and she received rave reviews for her take on "Give In To Me" during the Top 13's Michael Jackson theme week on American Idol.
Allison shares a tour bus with Lil Rounds, Megan Joy, and Allison's mom, since Allison is still a minor. She describes life on the road as "a lot of fun. I love road trips!" Getting used to living in a bunk on a bus will take some time to get used to, but Allison is enjoying it so far. To pass the time while in transit, Allison spends time on the internet, tweets from her Twitter account, watches movies, listens to music, and catches up on some much needed sleep. Allison is continuing her schoolwork too. "It's stressful and always in the back of my head, but I'm trying to finish it up."
Before American Idol, Allison estimates that the biggest crowd she performed live for was somewhere around 800 people. "I still get so scared and so nervous before I go out on stage," Allison said, "but I love doing it." Just by watching her perform, you would never know she was nervous!
Although Allison has not attended any of the American Idol summer tours before, she says she's excited for this to be her first one- and she's in it! While she's backstage waiting for her set she says, "I go through the crowd and I pace back and forth and don't stay still. I get my make-up done. Time flies so fast and before I know it, it's my turn to go out on stage."
Announced last month, Allison has been signed to 19 Entertainment and Jive Records. She has begun working on her album and said that it is "coming along great. I'm really happy."
Lastly, Allison would like to thank her fans for everything. "I wouldn't be here if it weren't for you guys."
