Catching Up with Anthony Fedorov
American Idol season 4 finalist Anthony Fedorov will star as Joseph in "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat." Oklahoma City's premiere regional theatre company, Lyric Theatre, is bringing Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical to their town from July 21st to July 25th. Season 3 runner-up Diana DeGarmo will also star in the musical. We recently caught up with Anthony to find out more about his thoughts on playing Joseph, life after Idol, and the future.
Anthony starred in "The Fantasticks" off-Broadway, and now he's starring in "Joseph." When asked what he loves about starring in musicals and live performances, Anthony said, "You get to combine acting and singing. A musical is a much more detailed way to tell a story."
Stars such as Donny Osmond, Leif Garrett, and David Cassidy have all played the lead of Joseph. Anthony said that playing Joseph "will be a great challenge for me. If I'm half as good as everyone who played Joseph before, I'll be thrilled." Anthony plans to tackle Joseph's role with "determination, heart, and soul."
Diana DeGarmo will play the role of the narrator in "Joseph." Anthony has met Diana several times before. He says he admires her, thinks she's phenomenal, and that there isn't a more perfect person to play the role of the narrator.
Anthony tries to keep in touch with his Idol friends, but it's difficult since everyone is so busy. He has recently chatted with Bo Bice, Vonzell Solomon, and Justin Guarini. Fellow Season 4 contestant Constantine Maroulis is currently starring in "Rock of Ages" on Broadway. Anthony has been busy traveling so he hasn't been able to attend the show, but he hopes to.
Describing his post-Idol life as a roller coaster ride, Anthony says he feels very blessed to be on this journey. American Idol gave him the jump start he needed to pursue his dreams. He's been a part of a few tours, including a tour to Europe to sing for the US troops. Anthony considers his time off-Broadway in "The Fantasticks" a blessing.
After performing in "Joseph," Anthony will continue to work on putting out a record. The economy has caused some set-backs in getting signed, but Anthony is positive and says, "I believe I'm ready now. We have a strong team."
Lastly, Anthony would like to say thank you to his fans for sticking with him. "They are so good and so loyal. My fans push me as hard as I push myself."
