Omaha Auditions


Omaha is the largest city in Nebraska and the nation's 42nd largest city according to the 2010 census. Omaha and the surrounding metropolitan area have an estimated population of 877, 110, making it the 60th largest metropolitan area in the United States. 

Omaha was founded in 1854 when speculators from nearby Council Bluffs, Iowa began to populate the area. The city was founded along the Missouri River and earned it's nickname, Gateway to the West, from a ferry crossing. Omaha was really put on the map when it hosted the 1898 World's Fair which was named the Trans-Mississippi Exposition. Omaha once boasted having the world's largest Stockyards and was home to many meatpacking plants. Now the city is home to many Fourtune 500 companies. Some of the coolest things to come out of Omaha? The TV dinner, Raisin Bran, Cake Mix and the Reuben sandwich.

Omaha the the distinction of being the starting point for the Union Pacific Railroad and by the middle of the 20th century, Omaha was served by almost every major railroad. The Union Pacific Railroad's headquarters have been housed in Omaha since their inception. Amtrak provides rail service for passengers through Omaha and Greyhound lines provides bud services. Like most cities automobiles are now the primary mode of transportation in the city. You can travel around Omaha using I-80, I-480, I-680, I-29 and US Route 75. Maybe you wouldn't think of Omaha as a walking city, but in fact it ranked 21st of the most walkable large US cities. There is always an impressive trail system throughout the city provided alternate means of transportation for pedestrians, bikers and runners.

When you think Omaha you probably don't think arts, but the city is home to the Omaha Community Playhouse, the largest community theater in the United States. The city is also home to the Omaha Symphony Orchestra, the Holland Performing Arts Center, and the Opera Omaha at the Orpheum theater to name a few. You can also check out the prestigious Henry Doorly Zoo which boasts the largest nocturnal exhibit and indoor swamp, the largest indoor rainforest, the largest indoor desert and the largest geodesic dome in the world.
