IDOL™ Round-Up August


AMERICAN IDOL® alumni are making waves with new music, performances and giving back. Check out all the news of note for August. 

Season 8's Scott MacIntyre is working on his second album. His sophomore debut will be funded by fans through a program called Kickstarter. Fans can donate money to cover the expenses of creating his album and in return they get to pick the title of the album, which songs will be on the album, and they will receive the album two weeks in advance.

Season 5 Top 9 finalist Mandisa recently released a track titled “Press On” on August 20. This is the second track, after "Overcomer", released from her fourth studio album Overcomer, which will premiere August 27.

Season 10's Top 4 finalist James Durbin debuted a new song entitled “Only Regret” from his forthcoming album during a performance for StageIt's official website on August 20.

Country cutie Kellie Pickler released her newest single “Little Bit Gypsy” on August 20. Pickler's forthcoming album, expected to be released later this year, will include “Little Bit Gypsy” and her last single, “Someone Somewhere Tonight.”

It was recently announced that IDOL's™ country superstar Carrie Underwood will cohost the forty-seventh annual CMA Awards with Brad Paisley. This marks the sixth consecutive time that Carrie and Brad have hosted Country Music's biggest night. The show will air live November 6 from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, TN.

Idols™ Giving Back
Kelly Clarkson recently teamed up with State Farm for their Celebrate My Drive program that asks teens to make a commitment to safe driving. School administrators must register their schools for the program at before October 17. Starting October 18, teens, their parents and community members can make commitments to safe driving. Schools with the most commitments have a chance to win either a cash grant or a private concert from our very first Idol™. 

Carrie Underwood is taking part in publishing company Zondervan's first country devotional, “Country Faith.” The book will include the favorite scriptures from some of today's biggest country stars along with a description of why the passage resonates with them. The book will be released November 5 and a portion of the sale of every book will benefit Season 8's Danny Gokey's charity, Sophia's Heart. Danny is scheduled to release his first book Hope in Front of Me: Find Purpose in Your Darkest Moment on October 1. The biography details the highs and lows of both his personal and professional life, and offers encouragement and advice for others facing challenging circumstances.

Season 10's Top 6 finalist Casey Abrams is back on the road showing off his musical talents! The down to earth star will perform at the Fountain Inn Center for Visual and Performing Arts for their Guest Artists series in South Carolina on September 14. Casey is also scheduled to perform at the Suncoast Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, NV on October 5 and 6. 

The first IDOL™ married couple, Diana DeGarmo and Ace Young are scheduled to co-star in a new touring production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, set to debut on March 6, 2014, in Cleveland, OH, at Cleveland's Playhouse Square. Diana is taking on the role of the Narrator and Ace will star as Joseph.

It was just announced that Season 4's Constantine Maroulis will be joining Back to the Eighties, a weekly show celebrating 80's music, at NYC's Canal Room on Broadway starting September 21.
