Harry Connick Jr. took time out of his busy schedule this week to talk about the upcoming finale and his future with the show. Harry happily announced that he is definitely coming back for Season XIV and has already. Part of the reason for Harry's decision to return is because he's enjoyed being a judge. "I've had a blast!" he exclaimed. He credited the amazing chemistry with fellow judges Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban for adding to the judging experience.
Heading in the finale where the two frontrunners of the season, Caleb Johnson and Jena Irene, Harry expressed awe at what the contestants have been able to accomplish this season saying "It's incredible to see."
When discussing who he thinks will win American Idol Harry said it's "anybody's race." He went on to say that "So many things go into winning American Idol." He had nothing but praise for the Top 2 though, pointing to Caleb's dynamic performances and the variety in Jena's efforts.
When asked if he would do anything differently looking back at the season Harry said, "I don't have any regrets. It's all based on initial performances." Harry has been the first judge of IDOL™ to really point out musical theory to the contestants when giving critiques. Harry revealed that he didn't set out to school the contestants, but it fit naturally into what he wanted to bring to the table. "All I wanted to really do was sit in a chair and be honest and specific." Harry has accomplished his goal as a judge, delivering consistent criticism that has helped the finalists grow throughout the season. We can't wait to see what he brings to Season XIV.
Be sure to tune into the Season XIII Finale TUE and WED at 8/7c on FOX!
