What is Idol Gives Back and what does it have to do with American Idol?

On Wednesday, April 9 (7:30-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed), Idol Gives Back, the historic Emmy Award-winning television event and music celebration, returns for its second year on FOX. This star-studded fundraiser and television event once again calls the world to action.

Idol Gives Back began in 2007 as a way for those behind American Idol to "give back" by raising money to support children's causes worldwide. This year, the Idol Gives Back Foundation (IGBF) comprised of the producers of American Idol and Fox Broadcasting Company, has been established to fulfill this goal.

Who benefits from the money raised by Idol Gives Back?

The money raised by Idol Gives Back 2008 will benefit charities serving the U.S. and abroad. In the U.S., the money will be distributed via IGBF to organizations such as The Children's Health Fund, Children's Defense Fund, Make It Right and Save the Children, U.S. Programs to support programs that provide needed food, medical care, housing and other assistance to children and their families living in some of the most disadvantaged areas of the U.S.

Outside of the U.S, children and their families will also benefit through IGBF's support of The Global Fund and Malaria No More. These two organizations have programs which are focused on delivering health and education services.

All of these charitable organizations have a proven track record of making a positive impact through responsible giving.

What is the Idol Gives Back Foundation and what do they do?

The Idol Gives Back Foundation is a new not-for-profit U.S. based organization (501(c) (3)) established by the producers of America0n Idol and Fox Broadcasting Company to raise money and awareness for children and families living in poverty and at risk in the U.S. and abroad. The Idol Gives Back Foundation harnesses American Idol's ability to capture America's hearts and the power of entertainment to benefit some of the poorest and most vulnerable people in the world.

Is my donation to Idol Gives Back tax deductible?

Yes, your donation is tax deductible to the extent provided by U.S. law. If you reside outside of the U.S., please check your local tax office for any potential benefit. If you have already donated, you should get a receipt either via e-mail (if you provided your email address), or via mail if you provided your address.

I donated, but did not get a tax receipt. What do I do?

E-mail receipts are sent out within 10 days of donating. However, if it has been longer than that and you still have not received an e-mail, please contact Donor Services by calling 1-800-216-3469, or you may e-mail us at service@idolgivesbackfoundation.org. If you did not provide an e-mail address, your receipt will be sent via USPS regular mail. This can take several weeks. If it has been longer than 4-6 weeks since you donated, please contact Donor Services by calling 1-800-216-3469, or by e-mailing service@idolgivesbackfoundation.org.

I don't have a credit card. Can I donate by check or money order?

Your personal information will only be used to complete your donation transaction, however, your email address will be used by the Idol Gives Back Foundation or a successor charitable organization to send you information in the future about charitable initiatives only if you have opted-in or expressly given your permission to receive this information.

How do I find out if my employer offers employee matching contributions for Idol Gives Back?

Many companies encourage employees to support non-profit organizations like the Idol Gives Back Foundation by offering to match employer donations. Your employer may have a program like this. There are three (3) easy steps. First, you will need to check with your employer to see if they have a matching gift program. Second, if your company has such a program, you should be able to obtain a matching gift application form from the human resources or personnel department. Your employer may even have such a form available for download on your company's website. Finally, once you have the form, you simply need to fill it out and send or email it to us at:
