When did you first start to sing?
I first started singing when I was a little girl, maybe around the age of four. I clearly remember singing when the Little Mermaid first came out, but before that I participated in three pageants when I was around the age of six. "Part of your World," from the Little Mermaid, is a song that I vividly remember singing.
Do you have any formal singing training?
I received about 3 months of formal training before I came to college during 2002.
What other talents do you have?
There are a lot of things that I am good at, but singing and performing are top two of my God-given talents.
If you don't make it on AMERICAN IDOL, what will you do?
If I don't make it on American Idol, hopefully someone will see that spark in me and want to put me on their team. If not, I'll still pursue a singing career while working on my degree at school.
What are your personal goals in life?
My goal is to become a professional singer, a performer…preferably internationally known. I want to meet my Prince Charming, get married and have five boys, enough for a basketball team. If I am not a singer, I wouldn't mind becoming a VJ for MTV or an anchor for CNN.
What album would your friends be surprised you own?
They wouldn't be surprised at any of my CDs...they know that I listen to a variety of music. Many don't know about or understand my appreciation for classic rock music or jazz though.
What is the first CD you ever bought?
I can't remember the first CD that I ever bought…I never really bought music growing up. I just listened to the radio religiously
What is in your CD player right now?
Aretha Franklin, "Respect and Other Hits."
Who is your AMERICAN IDOL?
My American Idol would have to be my mother…she possesses so many admirable characteristics.
What is your favorite type of music?
My favorite type of music would have to be hip hop/rap.
What is your favorite song to sing?
One of my favorite songs to sing is "Chain of Fools" by Aretha Franklin.
Favorite male pop artist?
Favorite female pop artist?
Jennifer Lopez, Alicia Keys or Beyonce.
Favorite album of all time?
"The Black Album" by Jay-Z.
Who in the music world do you think your style is most like?
I can't really identify my style with anyone else, but I will say it comes the closest to Alicia Keys or Dusty Springfield, maybe.
Most embarrassing moment?
I haven't had any embarrassing moments…I don't get embarrassed much. I just laugh at life's slip ups.
If you couldn't sing, which talent would you most like to have?
I would love to be able to freestyle or rap. It would also be nice to be a professional athlete, or to be able to sew well.
What has been your proudest moment in life so far?
My proudest moment in life so far would have to be making as far as I have in American Idol…It's a wonderful feeling to watch a dream unfold before your eyes.
What is your definition of an AMERICAN IDOL?
An American Idol is someone who embodies an American…a free spirit that is filled with pride and confidence; someone with role model characteristics.
Why do you want to be an AMERICAN IDOL?
I want to be the American Idol because I possess many qualities and talents that I want to share with the rest of the world. I want to be a positive reflection of and an ambassador for all Americans in more ways than one.
Who is your favorite judge and why?
My favorite judge would have to be Simon…he leaves me in suspense every time, attempts to intimidate, but tells it like it is.
Who is your least favorite judge and why?
I like all of the judges, I don't really have a least favorite…I just like Simon the best.
What advice do you have for other hopefuls?
I would advise other singing hopefuls to never give up and to give 110% each time they open their mouths to let out a note…you never know when it could be your last performance. In the words of Jay-Z, "…treat your first like your last, and your last like your first."
What would people be surprised to learn about you?
People would be surprised to know that I get nervous as crap when I am about to perform…so much so, that sometimes I feel nauseated, I start shaking all over the place because I can't control my nerves at the time. I need to work on that. I really don't like walking in front of large crowds either. Many people don't know that because I try to maintain myself as much as possible when I am put in situations like these.
