If you could perform in any venue in the world, where would that be? Why?
If I could perform in any venue, it would be Madison Square Garden because it's my home turf and you know you've finally reached the peak of your success performing at a venue such as MSG.
How has music inspired you?
Music is my absolute life. It has helped me through so many difficult thimes. When I felt like I had no one to turn to, music was there. It is my release, my form of expression - it is my being.
Do you have any formal singing training?
I do have formal vocal training. I started taking vocal lessons at 11.
What album would your friends be surprised you own?
My friends would be surprised to know that I own the Peter Gabriel "Rhythm of the Heat" album.
If you could perform with any person or group, who would it be and why?
It would be my sister who is the principal timpanist in the Tuscon Symphony.
What do you do to unwind after a performance?
I don't ever really unwind after a performance.
Which theme week would be most challenging to you and why?
I love a good challenge and as an artiste, I think we should be able to troll with the punches. However, I do think rock and roll would be a challenge because it's not my general disposition.
What theme week would you love to have for Season 10?
I would love to perform an original song on Season 10 of American Idol. So I think a great theme would be originals.
What's your dream song to perform?
My dream song to perform is "It Must've Been Love" by Roxette.
What makes a great performer?
A great performer needs to be confident, driven and not only be able to sing well from a techinical standpoint, but be able to really connect emotionally with the audience.
How do you combat stage fright?
I combat stage fright with deep breathing and positive affirmations. However, I always have butterflies before I perform.
How do you plan on differentiating yourself in the competition?
By being the best artist that I can be, by default that differentiates myself from all the other artists in the competition because there is only one me.
If you could model your career after an artist, who would it be and why?
Careerwise, I would have to say Madonna because her music is timelss. Both today's music and yesterday's music remain relevant. She's branched out into style and she's always had a "footprint" in pop culture.
If you couldn't sing, what other talent would you most like to have?
If I couldn't sing, I would love to be a professional dancer.
What has been the most unique job/chore you've ever had?
The most unique job I've ever had was doing coat check at an Italian restaurant.
How would you define success in life?
I would define success in life by the people whose lives you touch throughout your life.
What's the most embarrassing thing you've ever seen or experienced??
The most embarrassing thing I've ever experiences was when I worked for a DJ company taking pictures. While I was trying to get a great shot, I walked face first into glass doors while everyone was watching. I tried to play it off but it didn
What's your proudest moment in life outside of American Idol?
The proudest moment in life besides American Idol was singing the National Anthem at the NY Mets game because my grandfather was a die hard Mets fan and I know he was looking down on my smiling.
What would people be surprised to learn about you?
People would be surprised to know that I'm really clumsy, I snort when I laugh and at times I could be really shy, Most of the time I'm just a big old goofball.
If you have 24 hours to do anything you wanted, what would you do?
If I had 24 hours to do anything, I would spend it with my two grandfathers who have passed.
Who is the person that you would most like to meet?
The person I would most like to meet would be Oprah. It would be a dream come true to be interviewd by her and have an in depth conversation with such an influential woman.
Do you have a favorite quote, phrase or personal motto / words to live by?
Go confidently in the direction of your dreams, live the life you've imagined and don't worry about the things that you have no control over.
What's been the most surprising part of the Idol experience so far?
The most surprisng part of the Idol experience has been meeting so many incredible and talented people who I've grown so close with. As well as working with an incredible claiber of musicians.
What have you learned about yourself by going through the Idol audition process?
I've learned a ton about myself throughout this process. I've realized that I'm al ot stronger than I thought and that I'm very capable of handling high pressured situations.
What are you hoping to get out of your Idol experience?
I've gotten so much out of this experience already! I am so grateful for all my blessings being on this show, but I would love a real opportunity to express myself on a national stage as well as live the dream my grandpa Jay wished for me.
