Austin - Frank Erwin Center
Year after year, American Idol heads to Texas to audition hopefuls, and for the third time, Idol is off to the capital of Texas, Austin. In the "Live Music Capital of the World," we're sure to find some hot talent for Season 10. Austin has more live music venues per capita than anywhere else in the nation! As a result, many musicians call Austin home, and the town hosts some of the biggest music festivals including SXSW. You can catch a show any day of the week!
Transportation
Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (ABIA) is located just 5 miles southeast of the city. "Drive friendly" is one of the state mottos, and Austin is an easy town to drive through. To get from the airport to Erwin Center, it's a little over 10 miles, but without many turns. MSN named Austin the "Greenest City in America," and there are plenty of eco-friendly ways to get around. The city is very bike-friendly, and there are also two car-sharing programs, Car2Go and Austin CarShare.
Sightseeing
Cruise down 6th Street in Austin for good BBQ, local shops and upscale retail stores, pubs, and more. Austin is located on the Colorado River with three lakes, Lady Bird Lake, Lake Austin, and Lake Walter E. Long, within the city limits. Beat the heat and take a dip in the lake or in one of the 50 public swimming pools. Bring your golf clubs; Austin was named the nation's number one golf destination, and the town will host the Austin City Championship from August 5 - 8. On August 9th, the Season 9 Top 10 will be at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, TX for the American Idols LIVE! 2010 Tour. Although Dallas is 3.5 hours from Austin, you may want inspiration from the reigning Top 10 before singing for a golden ticket two days later.
