Kansas City
Kansas City, Missouri rightfully claims to be the heart of America as it's situated within 250 miles of the population and geographic centers of the country. It was incorporated in 1850. The famed Hanibal Bridge, which was the first to span the Missouri River, enabled the early growth of this great city. Well known for great Barbecue, Jazz and the hometown of Walt Disney's first studio, Kansas City has something to offer everybody!
Transportation
If you're flying into Kansas City, you'll arrive at Kansas City International Airport, where it's easy to either rent a car or take public transit to your local accommodations. The Kansas City Transportation Authority operates a comprehensive bus system and typically fares are $1.25 each way, but you can buy a day pass for $3, which allows you ride as many times as you like that day. Being green, we always recommend taking public transit whenever possible!
Sightseeing
Kansas City is sizzling with fun summertime activities for a visitor (or native) to do! If nighttime entertainment is your thing, then you're definitely going to want to check out the Kansas City Power & Light District, which is a new 8-block entertainment destination in the heart of the heart of America. A lot of people come to this great city because of its jazz and blues legacy. There are music clubs all over town and even a jazz museum, so if you want to groove to the sounds of quintessential American music, KC is your place. And once you've satisfied your appetite for good music (if that's possible), make sure you have your fill of KC barbecue. We could list out all the amazing barbecue joints in town, but we'd run out of pixels. Finally, if it's the museum world you are seeking, don't miss the 75-year old Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Its gorgeous building hosts a permanent collection as well as traveling exhibitions. Other memorable museums include the American Jazz Museum and the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in the 18th & Vine Historic Jazz District. Yes, there is plenty to do in Kansas City!
